Your Duties Under UK Law

Employers

  • Provide safe systems of work, competent staff and maintained equipment.
  • Plan, organise and supervise lifting/handling activities.
  • Keep inspection and examination records where required.

Employees

  • Take reasonable care of themselves and others.
  • Use equipment correctly and follow information, instruction and training.
  • Co-operate with safety arrangements on site.

Key Legislation We Work To

  • LOLER 1998 — lifting operations and equipment must be planned by competent people, safe working loads marked, and equipment thoroughly examined at required intervals.
  • PUWER 1998 — work equipment must be suitable, maintained, inspected, and used only by trained, informed operators with appropriate safeguards.
  • Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended) — avoid hazardous manual handling where possible; assess and reduce unavoidable risks.
